What Therapy with Me Feels Like
Where trust grows, tiny changes matter, and hope finds its way.
People often ask me what therapy with me feels like.
The honest answer is that it's probably different than you think.
Imagine sitting down with someone while sipping on your favorite drink. Over time, trust begins to grow. We share. We talk about life. We celebrate what has gone well. We acknowledge what's been difficult. We laugh. We cry. We simply get to be.
It becomes a safe place. A place that feels cozy, warm, simple, intentional...ours.
It's one of the few places in life where you don't have to perform, have all the answers, or pretend everything is okay. You simply get to arrive exactly as you are.
Over time, our conversations deepen as trust, honesty, curiosity, authenticity, and growth continue to unfold.
Counseling often begins with one goal in mind. Maybe it's managing anxiety, improving a relationship, navigating grief, creating healthier boundaries, sleeping better, or simply feeling more like yourself again.
That goal matters.
What also matters is recognizing that our lives are rarely influenced by just one thing.
As we begin talking, we often discover that what seemed like one challenge is connected to several others. Relationships affect confidence. Stress affects sleep. Grief shows up in unexpected places and sometimes lasts what seems like way too long. The way we think influences how we feel, and the way we feel influences how we respond.
It's natural to want to fix everything all at once. Most of us have felt that way.
Remember, “life is a delicate dance…”
Every step influences the next. Sometimes we find our rhythm with ease. Sometimes we stumble. Sometimes we pause. Sometimes we repeat the same step before we're ready to move forward again. As we begin finding steadiness in one area of our lives, other areas often begin finding their rhythm, too. Then we figure out what to hold on to and what to let go of.
Because life is always moving, it helps to have something we can return to.
Together, we begin identifying the direction that feels most meaningful. It becomes a compass. It doesn't guarantee a straight path. Instead, it gently reminds us where the journey is headed whenever life feels uncertain.
Neither the compass nor the dance is wrong.
Both help us find our rhythm as we continue changing and growing.
That's why I like returning to the compass. Not because we've lost our way. Not because of failure. Because growth often reveals a path we couldn't see and a rhythm we couldn't yet feel when we first began.
Not every session feels easy, and I think that's important to say. Some conversations are emotional. Some are challenging. Others are filled with laughter and stories. Most are a little of both. There are sessions that stay with us for days, and there are sessions that simply remind us to breathe. Every one has its purpose.
The work doesn't end when our time together does. Between sessions, life gives us opportunities to notice. We try something different. We recognize a familiar pattern. We pause before reacting. We set a boundary. We find ourselves extending grace in places where criticism used to live. Then one day, almost unexpectedly, we respond differently than we did two months ago.
Those are the tiny changes that quietly reshape our lives. They become new habits. New habits become new ways of living. Often, the transformation happens so gradually that we don't recognize it until we pause and look back.
If we ever have the opportunity to sit together (or if we already do), I hope you'll discover that therapy isn't about being perfect or having all the answers. It's about showing up, staying curious, doing the work, and allowing tiny changes to shape a life that feels more authentic, more intentional, and more your own.
Because hope isn't found all at once. Sometimes it quietly grows alongside us—one conversation, one insight, and one tiny change at a time.
I'm honored to walk a small part of that journey with you.
