The Quiet Gift of a Local Coffee Shop

This morning, I was talking with my Papa and mentioned that after our call I was heading to my local coffee shop.

Without missing a beat, he replied, "I like my coffee." ☕🙄

I laughed because, in that moment, I realized something.

It has never really been about the coffee.

It's about hearing, "Helloo Kimberley!" as I walk through the doors.

It's about someone asking, "Did you already get your steps in today?" or "Have you had your workout yet?"

Those simple moments remind me that feeling connected doesn't always require a long conversation.

After an Orangetheory workout, I could head straight home and begin my workday. Instead, I choose to protect the transition.

Before I head home to Kepler. Before I greet clients. Before the responsibilities of my workday begin.

For a few quiet moments, I let my mind catch up with my body. I enjoy a familiar routine, check in with the people I love, notice the world around me, and protect the transition between what I need and what the day will ask of me. It's a gentle reminder that self-care doesn't have to be elaborate.

Sometimes self-care looks like protecting the transition between what we need and what the day will ask of us.

The quiet gift of a local coffee shop isn't simply the coffee.

It's the opportunity to reset, reconnect, and gently transition into the rest of my day with intention. Those few quiet moments allow me to notice what matters before my responsibilities begin. By the time I head home to Kepler and begin my workday, I feel grounded, present, and ready.

I made time for something ordinary that quietly prepared me for everything that followed.
